Sitia awards designer Abigail Chang, winner of the “Sitia Singapore Design Competition 2019”

Sitia and d’Doubles explore the frontiers of “The human contract”, through a design competition open to Singaporean designers interpreting
new ways of experiencing contract spaces. A harmonious dialogue between work environments, with technical and functional needs,
and a relaxed and private atmosphere typical of a domestic setting.

Milan, May 24th 2019 – Sitia together with d’Doubles – its main retailer in Singapore with a showroom and e-commerce platform – officially launched the “Sitia Singapore Design Competition 2019” in March 2019.

The competition, launched during the Singapore Design Week 2019, is supported by the Italian Embassy in Singapore, the Italian Chamber of Commerce and the DesignSingapore Council – Singapore’s government arm for the promotion of things design. The competition attracted over 30 product design submissions, created by aspiring designers in Singapore, mostly university students. With this competition,
Sitia intends first of all to continue the great tradition of collaboration between industry and design; and to provide a unique opportunity for young designers to express themselves creatively.

On May 23rd May, “Una” by Abigail Chang was announced as the winner of the competition, selected by Sitia with the help of two exceptional judges: Mr Ong Tze Boon – executive director of the design group ONG & ONG with 12 offices globally – and Mr Mike Lim – director of DP Design, subsidiary of the DP Architects group, one of the largest architectural practices in the world. Abigail Chang wins with her project
“Una”, a transformable complement, a multifunctional space-divider with an elegant and minimalist design composed of large acoustic panels for sound comfort. The product is a combination of openness, collaboration and privacy, which provides people with a separable table that offers both visual and acoustic privacy, whilst promoting openness and collaboration.

Abigail Chang will participate in a workshop in Italy at Sitia’s production factory, where she will have the opportunity to work side by side with the brand’s artisans to develop and prototype her product. In addition to this, the winning product could be presented at the next Salone del Mobile 2020, and included into Sitia’s catalogue and global distribution network.

The award ceremony for the competition took place on May 23rd, in the presence of Sitia’s managing director Emanuel Battocchio, during a special event in Singapore at the d’Doubles showroom (Sitia retailer).
